Senate Republicans on Tuesday approved 107 of President Trump’s nominees in a largely party-line vote, invoking the Senate’s “nuclear option” to fast-track the process and sharply reduce the backlog of pending confirmations.
The newly confirmed officials include several of Trump’s high-profile allies, such as former Senate candidate and ex-NFL star Herschel Walker, now U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas, and longtime Trump adviser Sergio Gor, confirmed as U.S. ambassador to India. The Senate also approved a slate of senior administration officials, multiple prosecutors, and extended Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins’ term through 2031.
This marked the second time Republicans used a recent rule change, dubbed the “nuclear option,” to bypass Democratic delays. The change, adopted last month in response to nearly nine months of Democratic obstruction, allows large batches of nominees to advance with a simple majority instead of requiring traditional procedural hurdles.
