Russia Seeks Broader International Involvement in Talks as Ukraine Prepares for Meeting with U.S. Delegation

Talks between Russia and the United States were challenging but productive, with the United Nations and other countries set to take part in further discussions, a member of the Russian delegation told the TASS news agency. Ukrainian and U.S. delegations are also set to meet in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

“Everything was discussed—there was an intense, challenging dialogue, but it was very useful for us and for the Americans,” Russian Senator Grigory Karasin said. “Many problems were discussed.”

Karasin, a former diplomat, stated that discussions would continue with the involvement of the U.N. and other unnamed nations. “We will continue to do this, involving the international community, first of all, the United Nations and individual countries,” he said.

He described the talks as constructive and necessary, adding that the U.S. was also interested in continuing the dialogue.

The United States announced on Tuesday that it has reached separate agreements with Ukraine and Russia to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and to enforce a ban on strikes against energy facilities in both countries.

In a statement, the White House said Washington would assist in restoring Russia’s access to global markets for agricultural and fertilizer exports while continuing to facilitate negotiations on both sides in pursuit of a lasting peace.

A Russian source told Reuters that a draft joint statement had been sent to Moscow and Washington for approval, with both sides aiming to release it on Tuesday.
