House Republicans investigate FBI’s sudden one-eighty on confidential human source

by | Mar 1, 2024

According to a joint congressional letter exclusively shared with The Federalist, House Republicans are demanding the FBI turn over documents related to the federal government's indictment of a once-trustworthy confidential human source (CHS).

To request information regarding Special Counsel David Weiss’ indictment of CHS Alexander Smirnov, House Oversight Chairman James Comer and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan wrote a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Friday asking for related documents. Two weeks ago, Smirnov was accused of fabricating information about Joe Biden's involvement with a Ukrainian oligarch.

Republican lawmakers are left to wonder about the FBI's sudden change of heart on a source they once valued highly.

Wray has until March 15 to respond, according to the legislature.
