Rep. Jordan demands interview with Mar-a-Lago prosecutor

by | Jun 7, 2024

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has formally requested that Jay Bratt, a lead prosecutor on Special Counsel Jack Smith's team handling the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case against President Trump, provide documents and participate in a transcribed interview before the committee.

Jordan's letter, similar in tone and detail to his recent communications with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his lead prosecutor in the falsified business records case, Matthew Colangelo, outlines the specific grounds for his requests.

The letter highlights several concerns, including alleged retaliation against attorney Woodward, the admission that some evidence was altered or manipulated post-seizure from Mar-a-Lago, and a request for a gag order against Trump without prior consultation with his legal team. These points are presented as serious issues reflecting poorly on Bratt and the overall prosecution.

In addition to these concerns, Jordan's letter demands a wide range of documents related to the Trump case. These include communications between Bratt, the Department of Justice, and the White House, as well as communications related to and drafts of the motion to modify Trump's release conditions, and interactions with the Office of Professional Responsibility.

Jordan also asks Bratt to contact committee staff by June 20 to schedule an interview. While the interview may take place, it remains uncertain whether Bratt will comply with the request.
