Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles has announced a formal investigation into Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell, accusing the mayor of intentionally obstructing federal immigration enforcement efforts in the city.Ogles published the official investigation documents Friday morning, alleging that O’Connell is sabotaging Tennessee by interfering with the work of federal agents.
“Instead of defending our state, Mayor Freddie O’Connell is sabotaging it,” Ogles posted on X. “He’s weaponized his office to dox and surveil federal agents who are trying to stop violent criminals — and worse, he’s embraced those criminals by creating a taxpayer-funded program to aid illegal aliens.”
The move follows Ogles’ May 14 appearance at a Homeland Security Committee hearing in Washington, D.C., where he first raised concerns about the mayor’s actions. During the hearing, Ogles questioned Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem about potential criminal implications for public officials who help illegal immigrants evade law enforcement.
Since then, Ogles has continued pressing the issue, criticizing O’Connell and other Nashville officials over their handling of recent ICE operations in the city. Much of the backlash has centered on Executive Order 30, which requires the Metro Nashville Police Department to monitor ICE activity and report it publicly.
“Today, with the full support of Chairmen Jim Jordan and Mark Green, I’m taking action,” he wrote. “If Mayor O’Connell wants to spy on federal agents doing their job, then Congress is going to investigate him for obstruction,” Ogles explained.
