Minnesota Department of Human Services employees accused Gov. Tim Walz of creating a “cascade of systemic failures” that allowed statewide fraud.
The allegations follow a New York Times report on Somali residents enrolling in nonexistent services through nonexistent companies, which DHS staff credited for exposing the scheme.
“Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota,” employees wrote on X Saturday, claiming whistleblowers faced “monitoring, threats, repression,” and efforts to discredit reports. They said agency leaders appointed by Walz ignored rules, suppressed fraud claims, and even threatened whistleblowers’ families.
Employees also criticized Walz’s use of federal ARPA funds, intended as temporary support, to create leadership positions for allies, calling him “dishonest, lacking ethics and integrity, with poor leadership abilities” and accusing him of refusing accountability.
Earlier this month, President Trump ended temporary protected status for Somali residents, alleging “Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing.” Walz has not publicly responded to the fraud allegations.
