Los Angeles County voted Tuesday to declare a state of emergency in response to ongoing federal immigration raids, citing “widespread community and economic disruption.”
The measure, introduced by Supervisors Lindsey P. Horvath and Janice Hahn, passed 4–1 with Supervisor Kathryn Barger dissenting. County officials said the declaration will allow them to provide financial and legal assistance to residents impacted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.
The emergency order includes provisions for rent relief, legal aid, and other support services for affected residents. It also authorizes county leaders to mobilize resources, seek state and federal funding, and expedite contracts to mitigate the effects of the raids.
The declaration will remain in effect until officially terminated by the Board of Supervisors.
