A New York judge has affirmed that President Trump's hush-money trial will proceed as planned, commencing with jury selection on March 25.
Judge Juan Manuel Merchan upheld the trial date, citing the recent postponement of the Washington prosecution concerning the election interference case. This case, initially scheduled for trial on March 4, has been essentially halted until the resolution of Trump's appeal on the untested legal matter of whether a former president is immune from prosecution for actions during their tenure.
The trial is expected to last six weeks.
If the New York case stays on track, it will commence shortly after the Super Tuesday primaries, coinciding with a crucial time in the political calendar. Trump aims to solidify his position in the Republican race and become the presumptive nominee for this year’s presidential contest. His legal team referenced this timing while urging the judge to reconsider the March trial date.
