A federal judge has declined to issue a temporary restraining order against Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), allowing them continued access to federal data systems.
The request, brought forth by Democratic attorneys general from 14 states, aimed to halt DOGE’s involvement in federal agencies, citing concerns over unauthorized data access and potential overreach. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan acknowledged the plaintiffs’ apprehensions but determined there was insufficient evidence of immediate and irreparable harm to justify such an order.
The Tuesday decision permits DOGE to proceed with its initiatives, which include significant workforce reductions and budget cuts across various federal departments. The broader lawsuit challenging DOGE’s authority and actions remains under judicial consideration.
