Hunter Biden files, promptly withdraws request for new federal gun trial

On Monday, Hunter Biden's legal team filed and swiftly withdrew a motion for a new gun trial, following his conviction on all charges related to his 2018 firearm purchase.

Led by attorney Abbe Lowell, the team submitted the motion in Delaware federal court, contending that the court lacked jurisdiction due to two pending appeals in the case.

The motion was then removed from the court document website. A note on the docket website stated, “The Motion for a New Trial (formerly DI 233) has been deleted at the request of counsel,” labeling it a “correcting entry.”

Last Tuesday, Biden was found guilty of making a false statement during the gun purchase, providing false information to a federally licensed gun dealer, and possessing a firearm while being an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

The jury deliberated for approximately three hours over two days before reaching their verdict on all charges.

Biden's sentencing is scheduled for later this year, although an exact date has not been set. He faces a maximum prison term of 25 years for the three charges. Each count also includes a potential fine of up to $250,000 and three years of supervised release. However, as a first-time offender it is unlikely that he will receive the maximum penalties.
