The House of Representatives passed the Republican-led Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act on Wednesday with a 221-198 vote. This bill mandates that voters prove their U.S. citizenship to participate in federal elections.
Almost every single democrat voted against it.
Introduced by Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy earlier this year, the Biden administration opposes the bill, arguing that it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections.
This story is breaking.
