Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis failed Tuesday in her attempt to rejoin the Georgia election interference case against President Trump and his allies.
The Georgia Supreme Court, in a 4-3 vote, refused to review a lower court decision that removed Willis from the case last December. The state Court of Appeals had ruled she created an “appearance of impropriety” by maintaining a romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, who was leading the effort. One justice did not participate in the ruling, and another was disqualified.
Trump and 18 others were indicted in 2023 under Georgia’s racketeering laws for allegedly attempting to overturn the 2020 election “results” in Georgia.
“While I disagree with the decision of the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court’s divided decision not to review it, I respect the legal process and the courts,” Willis said in a statement. She added that her office would turn over evidence to the Prosecuting Attorneys Council and expressed hope the case would still be pursued.
