Elon Musk makes significant donation to Trump-aligned PAC, fully endorses Trump for President

by | Jul 12, 2024

Billionaire Elon Musk has reportedly made a significant donation to a super political action committee (PAC) that works to support Donald Trump's bid for the White House.

According to anonymous sources, Musk contributed to America PAC, though the exact amount remains undisclosed. This move marks a notable shift for Musk, who, despite identifying as politically independent and previously avoiding direct political involvement, now frequently shares right-leaning views on his social media platform, X.

This financial support comes at a crucial moment for Trump, who is outpacing Joe Biden in fundraising, largely due to substantial contributions from wealthy Wall Street and corporate donors. In contrast, Biden's fundraising efforts have declined after the debate, causing some key Democratic donors to withdraw their support.

Although Musk has not officially endorsed any candidate for the 2024 election and previously stated he did not plan to finance campaigns for either Trump or Biden, his recent actions suggest a significant shift. If Musk continues to support Republicans financially, it could make him a powerful player in the political arena.

America PAC focuses primarily on enhancing the Trump campaign's ground game through canvassing and voter mobilization, particularly in critical battleground states. With the PAC's next financial disclosure due on July 15, the extent of Musk's contribution will soon be revealed. The PAC has already spent $15.8 million on direct voter contacts, with $13.1 million allocated to field operations.

The PAC’s efforts could significantly impact the Democrats, who are already dealing with internal disputes about Biden’s future. By investing heavily in field offices and staff in swing states, Democrats are trying to maintain their ground, but America PAC's resources will likely give Republicans a crucial advantage.

Musk’s involvement adds to his growing influence in Washington, where his companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, and X, frequently engage with federal agencies and benefit from government contracts. Some of Trump's proposed policies, like rolling back Biden’s electric vehicle initiatives and imposing tariffs on Chinese EV makers, could directly benefit Tesla, illustrating the potential mutual benefits of this political alignment.

Despite past disagreements, Musk and Trump have developed a closer relationship, with Musk advising Trump on issues related to electric vehicles and cryptocurrency. Neither the Trump campaign nor America PAC’s treasurer, Chris Gober, have commented on the matter.

Update: Shortly after the assassination attempt on Trump, Elon made a post on X fully endorsing him for president.
