DNC asks judges in Michigan and Nevada to reject election integrity lawsuits

by | May 7, 2024

The DNC is urging judges in Michigan and Nevada to dismiss lawsuits concerning voter rolls and mail-in ballots. Acting on behalf of Joe Biden's reelection campaign, the DNC submitted three amicus briefs regarding lawsuits initiated by the RNC in these key battleground states.

The DNC characterized the lawsuits as “dangerous” and “flawed” attempts by President Trump and the RNC to undermine public confidence in election integrity ahead of the November elections. The two lawsuits allege that the number of active voters in crucial counties within those states is “suspiciously high” and urge election officials to invalidate voter registrations.

The DNC is also seeking court dismissal of a Republican challenge concerning the guidance provided by Michigan's secretary of state to local election clerks for verifying signatures on ballots.

The DNC's amicus brief in Michigan, in response to the voter roll lawsuit, stated that Republicans had filed multiple lawsuits in the state attempting to invalidate election ‘results’ following Trump's ‘loss’ in the 2020 presidential election.

In Nevada, the DNC's brief similarly asserted that the RNC's lawsuit is aimed more at undermining public confidence in the security and integrity of our electoral systems than addressing any genuine concerns with Nevada's voter registration lists.

The RNC lawsuit in Nevada challenges the state's 2021 mail-in voting law, seeking to prevent the counting of any ballots received after Election Day. The RNC lawsuit contends that counting such ballots “diminishes legitimate votes” and unfairly impacts GOP candidates and voters, as Democrats are more inclined to vote by mail than Republicans.

As of now, the RNC is already actively pursuing over 80 election-related lawsuits.
