Two incumbent members of Congress were forced out by their own party voters Tuesday, as Rep. Dan Crenshaw lost his Republican primary and Rep. Jasmine Crockett fell in her bid for the Democratic Senate nomination.
Crenshaw, the only GOP House incumbent on the ballot without President Trump’s endorsement, was unseated after state Rep. Steve Toth campaigned on closer alignment with the MAGA agenda and secured backing from Sen. Ted Cruz. On the Democratic side, Crockett lost after a combative final stretch that included dueling voter suppression claims, with Talarico capturing enough support to avoid a runoff and advance to the general election.
“We’re about to take back Texas,” Talarico said, adding, “We are not just trying to win an election. We are trying to fundamentally change our politics. And it’s working.”
