Attorney General Pam Bondi’s chief of staff, Chad Mizelle, is leaving the Justice Department, the attorney general and her deputy confirmed Tuesday.
Mizelle’s departure comes after Trump criticized the department over the weekend on Truth Social, stating, “same old story as last time, all talk, no action. Nothing is being done.”
Mizelle, who was named chief of staff in December and also served as acting associate attorney general, previously held several senior roles in the first Trump administration. He worked as chief legal officer for Jared Kushner’s private equity firm before returning to Washington, D.C.
Sources said some White House staffers had grown frustrated with Mizelle, believing he should have shielded Bondi from fallout over the Epstein files controversy, though there is no indication Trump shared those concerns. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson defended Mizelle, saying he “played a key role in securing countless legal victories and helped deliver on many of President Trump’s key promises.”
