U.S. Central Command said American forces intercepted Iranian missile, drone, and small boat attacks targeting U.S. Navy destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz into the Gulf of Oman on May 7, with no American assets struck during the engagement.
According to CENTCOM, Iranian forces launched the attack as the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason moved through the international waterway. U.S. forces responded with self-defense strikes, eliminating inbound threats before targeting Iranian military infrastructure tied to the attack.
CENTCOM said the retaliatory operation hit missile and drone launch sites, command and control locations, and intelligence and surveillance nodes used by Iranian forces. The command stated it does not seek escalation but remains prepared to defend U.S. personnel and assets in the region.
President Trump told ABC News the strikes amounted to a “love tap” and said a ceasefire remains in effect.
