Appeals Court Lifts Block on Department of Government Efficiency

by | Apr 7, 2025

A federal appeals court has cleared the way for the Department of Government Efficiency to access sensitive data from multiple federal agencies.

In a 2-1 decision, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a Maryland judge’s order that had blocked the team from obtaining information from the Treasury Department, Education Department, and Office of Personnel Management.

The court also narrowly rejected, by an 8-7 vote, a request to hear the case en banc, which would have involved all active judges on the circuit.
