After the DNC, Biden For President, the Biden Victory Fund, and the Biden Action Fund failed to report direct and indirect contributions and coordinated communications made in connection with the infamous and debunked “Letter of 51”, America First Legal filed a lawsuit against the Federal Election Commission (FEC) yesterday.
51 anti-Trump former intelligence officials released a statement on October 19, 2020, denouncing as “Russian disinformation” reports that Joe Biden and his son had been the subjects of debilitating laptop information.
The public statement was written by Michael Morrell at Anthony Blinken's request, a Biden campaign staffer who is currently the Secretary of State, as AFL reveals in the lawsuit filed today. Joe Biden, the then-presidential candidate, then made this claim in his debate against Donald Trump on October 22, 2020.
According to the information in AFL's lawsuit, the 51 former intelligence officials public statement was not only sparked by the Biden campaign but also served as a platform for the candidate to gain media attention.
The public statement's intent was to sway the election between Biden and President Trump, according to internal emails sent by the Biden campaign.
Federal law mandates that the costs and beneficiaries of such coordinated communications be made public because the public statement was produced and disseminated using resources from the Biden campaign, and because it was distributed in the media at the campaign's request.
